Generally speaking you woudl say there no such thing as a BRITISH accent. When Americans say "i just love your British accent"... they mean ENGLISH. This is not to say that many Scottish, Welsh and Irish accents aren't far superior to some English regional accents (i.e. West Midlands!). We have a vast array of different accents but i think Americans - and most of the world - historically look at the Colin Firths, Alan Rickman actor types.
Of course in reent months we have heard the term "British accent" used to describe the voice of that Jihadhi John character - and i must admit to having no idea how else to describe those tones ... not English accent that's for sure!
